14 October 2006 THE KLUCKING OF HENS by Carole Lockwood The Cast...
The Klucking of Hens is about a group of six women in Celestial, Alabama, a very small town just south of Birmingham. The women’s ages range from 18 to over 65 and yet they all have strong connections. Lockwood gives us a great deal of humour in the dialogue between the characters. Early in the play, another woman from Ohio is introduced to the group, since she recently mariied the son of one of the older women. The dynamics of the new woman entering the group and the prejudices and bigaory that begin to appear are what make the play so very strong and gripping. The audience will very soon find that this is not a comedy. Carole has written five plays; Basic Cabel, The Lone Star Princess, and three scripts historically founded in the civil rights movement, “the girls” of Red Tears (the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church), The Mary Band Road Show (the Selma-to-Montgomery March) and The Klucking of Hens (A Story of Klan Wives). Up on the Roof (rooftops after Hurricane Katrina) is currently in the works. |
